Mark Rathinaraj
Mark Rathinaraj is a Chennai-based visual artist whose work draws deeply from the cultural traditions and lived memories of his hometown near Kumbakonam. Trained in painting at the Kumbakonam College of Fine Arts (1990), he has developed a distinctive, instantly recognizable style influenced by K. M. Adimoolam and the Madras Art Movement. Rooted in tradition yet shaped by a contemporary sensibility, Mark’s practice explores the human form in motion—balancing physical presence with expressive abstraction. His paintings, drawings, and recent sculptural works are energized by classical and folk dance forms, martial arts, and yoga, capturing power, rhythm, and emotional intensity through dynamic gestures, vibrant color fields, and a compelling play of line, space, and movement.
