Work Tree

Luk Gastman’s Worktree set its roots after the catastrophic cyclone Thane uprooted entire homes, trees and lives. The felled debris became much of Worktree’s reservoir, where toys and homeware were made with the Acacia trees left behind. After giving up his twelve year stint as a teacher, Luk devoted his time to the establishment of Worktree. With a family of horticulturists steadying his green thumb, he cultivated his land out of his sheer love for nature. Not only does Luk pay his due respect for the environment but he also works on building the local community. All of Wortree’s wood is locally sourced from sustainable forests and all the products are crafted by craftsmen from the local community. Luk is comfortably conversant with all his employees as he is fluent in Tamil and ensures that they feel at home at Worktree’s workspace. From wooden salad bowls to toy cars, Worktree boasts an expansive line of pieces and Luk now has centred himself at the core of Auroville and its community in all that he does.
