Rendered in rich, resonant colour, these works pulse with the vitality of the human form. Posture becomes language, hue becomes mood. Through a careful balance of line and colour, Mark weaves stories where the performer and the performance exist in equal measure, each reflecting and shaping the other.

Rooted in the local yet reaching toward the universal, Mark’s acrylic works centre on the human form as a meeting point of body and mind. He is drawn to the quiet dialogue between the two—the way thought inhabits flesh, and how flesh, in turn, shapes being. This inquiry unfolds vividly in both the Yoga and Performer series.

The seeds of this exploration were sown in Kumbakonam, where Mark lived in close rhythm with performers from his village. Shared moments of rural life allowed him to witness their ordinary selves, even as he observed the striking transformation that occurred when they stepped into performance. From this contrast emerged his enduring fascination with persona—how identity shifts through costume, gesture, and action. His paintings celebrate the spectacle of performance, yet gently peel back the mask to reveal fleeting glimpses of the individual beneath.
