Forest Post

For the first fifteen years of her career, Dr. Manju Vasudevan immersed herself in the rhythms of tropical forests - studying trees and bees, tracing mountain trails, and learning from indigenous forest-dwelling communities. Alongside her research, she explored environmental education and travel writing, blending science with storytelling.

Her work at the River Research Centre, a grassroots NGO, focused on community-led conservation. Within just two years, she helped mobilize Adivasi women’s groups around the value addition of locally sourced forest produce. This led to the creation of Forest Post - an initiative designed to strengthen market linkages for products crafted in forest village enterprises.

Today, Forest Post connects over 80 women from five tribal communities across nine indigenous villages, offering a powerful model for livelihood generation rooted in ancestral land and ecological integrity. At the heart of her inspiration are the bamboo-weaving women from one of these project villages - custodians of craft, resilience, and the forests they call home.
